Project: buffers for barrier-fluid in mechanical double seals on tank transfer pumps

Mechanical double seals use two running surfaces, which ensure the pumps are well sealed. This seal is of critical importance in preventing odours and vapours from leaking to the outside air, and complying with zero-emission requirements. The shafts of these large pumps are sealed with double-seal systems. Barrier fluid is applied between the two running surfaces for cooling and lubrication. The increased pressure of the barrier fluid is controlled by buffers.

These buffers are used for pumps that transfer crude oil from ships to large storage tanks. The function of the manufactured buffers is to increase the pressure of the barrier fluid compared to the crude oil liquid by the use of a membrane. The pressure in the sealed package is therefore higher than the pressure in the pump. This method prevents odours and vapours from leaking to the outside air, and complies with zero-emission requirements.

In our large machine factory, machining is carried out by CNC-controlled lathes and milling machines. Thanks to its broad customer base in specialist pump companies, Sietzema Techniek has acquired many years of experience in machining pump parts.
